Fashion Legacy
Julia Restoin Roitfeld

Introducing Aje Muse and the premier Aje Insider for Resort 22, Julia Restoin Roitfeld.

The embodiment of French Girl Style, fashion is not just a family affair for Julia; as the daughter of former Vogue Paris Editor-in-Chief Carine Roitfeld, Julia has grown up observing the world of high fashion and in turn, effortlessly embodying French Girl style. A master of sophisticated nonchalance, Julia is an eternal fashion muse in her own right, captivated by the nonchalance of classic tailoring and truly embodying the feminine and masculine duality loved by the Aje Woman.

From educating audiences on conscious consumption on her ‘Less is More’ editorial platform to consulting for fashion’s most prestigious houses, Julia is currently looking forward to growing her family and exploring her new home base. Newly relocated to London after previously residing in New York City, Julia speaks to the Aje Report on how she curates her personal style, her favourite summer memories and her most coveted looks from the ‘Scent of Summer’ collection.

With baby number two on the way, Julia is captured in her charming London borough, by Polly Slavova, styling Resort 22 with her formidable French je ne sais quoi.

Meet this season’s Aje Insider, Julia Restoin Roitfeld.

The ‘Scent of Summer’ collection encapsulates the essence of an endless summer. Share with us your favourite summer memory.

We did have a few years in a row in Ibiza that were magical. It was a family trip, but we always had friends visiting and staying over. We rented the same house, and after a few summers, it felt like home. My favourite part though were the boat days, taking dips in the sea and eating the most amazing food in Formentera, the island just next to Ibiza. I was also in Australia a few Australian summers ago. I had a magical time. It was my first trip with my boyfriend and a big one that I will always remember!

What are your personal considerations for buying consciously and thoughtfully?

Well I am really a picky shopper and I only buy things that I know I will wear over and over. I don’t like to over think my outfit in the morning. Being a minimalist also makes my life much easier when I need to get dressed. Some might think it’s boring, but I like to be this way. I feel truer to myself.

How would you describe your personal style?

I like to think that my personal style is quite timeless and minimal. I don’t think it has changed much since I was a teenager to be honest, even a primary school girl! Sometimes I feel I still wear my school uniform to which I always add an edge. Think of a classic wool navy coat paired with patent leather pants or a skirt, and patent leather Mary Janes. I like to think it's overall quite classic, with a touch of rock!

What is the oldest thing in your wardrobe?

A Helmut Lang blazer from the 90s. I believe I got it on one of my first trips to London with my mum. The Eurostar didn’t even exist yet, I still wear it whenever I need to wear a blazer. It’s a bit oversized and boyish which I love, and it pairs perfectly with a little black dress or black jeans.

What’s at the top of your current wishlist from Aje?

I love the all-white suit! It’s minimal and yet feels powerful and sexy at the same time! I also love the babydoll short black dress. I can see myself wearing it dressed down with a pair of flats or a night with a pair of sky-high heels.

Do you find your aesthetic is flexible depending on where you’re currently living?

I think my style has been quite the same for the last 10 years despite living then in NY and now in London.

Do different urban environments affect what you wear?

I think my city look remains quite the same despite where I am. My beach holiday look though is more bohemian and colourful.

Reflecting on the year that has passed, what are your hopes for 2022?

I moved to London just a year ago and we went straight into lockdown shortly after moving, right up until the summer. So, I feel I have more to experience living here still to come and I am very excited to finally get to know what my London life will be!
